Valve's president, Gabe Newell, set his team the goal of redefining the FPS genre. Development lasted five years and cost $40 million. Half-Life 2 was created using Valve's Source engine, which was developed at the same time. Players control Gordon Freeman as he joins a resistance movement to liberate the Earth from the control of a multidimensional alien empire, the Combine. Like the original Half-Life (1998), Half-Life 2 combines shooting, puzzles, and storytelling, and adds features such as vehicles and physics-based gameplay. It was first published by Valve for Windows through its distribution service Steam. It should be noted players can experience crashes when on the larger maps.Half-Life 2 is a 2004 first-person shooter (FPS) game developed by Valve. They’re far from the visual fidelity of modern games, but it’s a noticeable improvement from the base game. It remakes the disaster scene at the start of the game and introduces new maps, all of which are enhanced visually. This mod doesn’t overhaul the game's visuals and mechanics, but it does improve some of them. Players will still be killing aliens along the way, but their only mission is to get out of the facility alive. Instead of witnessing the Black Mesa Incident from the eyes of protagonist Freeman, the players live through the event as one of the many security guards of the facility. It allows players to experience the events of Half-Life from a completely different perspective. Half-Life: Insecure Mod takes place at the same place and the same time. The base game ends with Freeman successfully halting the invasion by killing the aliens’ leader, before disappearing and becoming a legend. When a failed experiment results in hostile aliens pouring into the research facility, Freeman is forced to defend himself and stop the invading creatures. In Half-Life, players control Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist in Black Mesa.
